About Elswick Singers 🎶

Founded in 1985 by a small group of ladies united by their love of singing, Elswick Singers has grown into a vibrant choir of almost 40 members in 2024, all sharing that same passion for music.

Under the direction of Carol Newton, an accomplished oboist and our dedicated musical director, the choir continues to thrive. We are also fortunate to be accompanied by the incredibly talented David Cookson on the piano, whose beautiful playing enhances each performance.

Performances and Events

We host four concerts per year at Elswick Village Hall—two in the summer and two just before Christmas. Our performances range across a wide variety of musical styles, from classical pieces to popular tunes and everything in between.

Each year, we also participate in the Lytham Choir Festival, where we enjoy performing and listening to other choirs in a joyful evening of shared musical celebration.

We’re always happy to welcome new members to Elswick Singers.

If you love to sing, we’d love to have you—whether you can read music or not. There’s no audition process, just come along and enjoy singing with us in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. 🎶

If you're interested in joining or want to know more, please get in touch. We’d love to share our passion for music with you!

40th Anniversary Celebration

Next year marks a very special milestone—our 40th anniversary! We’re planning a special celebration concert, so keep an eye out for details on this exciting event.

Whether you’re a long-time supporter or someone new to our performances, we invite you to join us in celebrating the love of singing that has kept this group thriving for nearly four decades!

Staying Connected Through Lockdown 🎶

During the lockdown, Elswick Singers stayed active and kept the music alive! Even though we couldn’t meet in person, we held weekly virtual rehearsals via Zoom, and as a choir, we adapted in creative ways. We even managed to put on a virtual concert, with each member recording their voice to backing tracks. Afterward, we learned how to combine all the individual recordings to create beautiful choir pieces—though it wasn’t quite the same as singing together, it kept us connected and doing what we love most.

The moment restrictions eased, we couldn’t wait to reunite! At the first opportunity, we met safely outdoors, holding a socially distanced sing-along and our AGM in a local field. 🎶🌿 It wasn’t the usual setup, but it kept our choir spirit alive and ensured we kept singing together through challenging times.
